New anti-HIV gel for women

Microbicidal gel containing antiretroviral resistant HIV has been applied to the vagina before sex.

Today 19/7 Journal of Science of South African announced new study of South African scientists have foud a way to help women avoid HIV.

According to the magazine, the experimental research was conducted at two community AIDS pandemic was the worsrt devastation in this country, a place in rural areas and in urban areas. Accordingly, the type of soild round (gel) containing microbicidal antiviral against HIV can be applied to the vagina before sex. Scientists say they have finally found some antiseptic – to help tham make that promise to help women fight the disease two decades later centuries.

Howeverm scientists also said that trials with s large scale is needed to achieve 100% efficiency, this may take several years before the products are widely deployed. New York Times quoted Dr. Bruce Walker – a professor at Harvard Medical School said: “This is the first time an effective tool that women can use to protect themselves from HIV infection.” Mr.Michel Sidibe – UNAIDS Excutive director – Office of HIV/ AIDS of the United Nations said: “This is very encouraging. Women can control, that’s their right. They are not dependent on men when using it. And the cost of this gel is not high.”

In South Africa, there are 5.7 million people infected with HIV – the highest figure in the world and up to 30 % of South African women aged 20-34 infected.
