Vietnam – in light of HIV/AIDS

Afternoon 21/7 in meeting with the delegation of Vietnam who are working in Australia CH, UNAIDS Director Michel Sidibe reviews, Vietnam was known to the international community as a bright spot in HIV/AIDS.

In the capital, Vienna, Australia, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong and Mission Govement of Vietnam has had meetings with Director of the UN Programme of HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), Mr.Michel Slidibe and Coordination Global AIDS Program of the United States, Eric Goosby said.

UNAIDS always work closely with Vietnam in combating HIV/AIDS

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong said that the cooperation and support of the UNAIDS prigram in HIV/AIDS in Vietnam is very comprehensive and effective, contributing to control the rate of increase in HIV/AIDS in communities of Vietnam.

Vietnam wants to continue to cooperate more closely with UNAIDS in implementing extensive programs attend harm reduction intervention for HIV/AIDS activities as well as care and treatment for diseases human AIDS.

Besides, Vietnam UNAIDS would like to share experiences, good models of the world in HIV/AIDS.

Mr. Michel Sidibe said that HIV/AIDS is a very difficult task, it needs the complex and determined efforts of the national high level and the support of the international community.

UNAIDS confirmed will always work closely with Vietnam in the fight against HIV/AIDS,Mr.Michel Sidibe said: “I’m delighted to see Vietnam as the international community was known as a bright spot in HIV/AIDS and more excited as the results which have contributed a small part of UNAIDS.”

United States  continue PEPFAR in Vietnam

In meeting wih the Coordinator of Global AIDS of the United States, said Eric Goosby, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong thanked the U.S for aid of PEPFAR program (program for emergency aid of U.S for 15 countries to combat AIDS) for Vietnam.

Deputy Prime Minister stressed that Vietnam always respect and will continue to manage an effective use of aid for the PEPFAR program in HIV/AIDS.

Eric Goosby affirmed a strong commitment to continue to maintain and expand U.S aid in the PEPFAR program.

PEPFAR in the President initiated since 2003. Start PEPFAR support for Vietnam in the field of HIV/AIDS since 2005

PEPFAR is one of the largest sources of aid for the prevention of HV/AIDS in Vietnam, forcusing on activites with ARV treatment for HIV/AIDS, prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child, system capacity tests on HIV/AIDS …As in 2005 – 2009, PEPFAR aid to Vietnam has more than 216 million dollars.

About ARV treatment , by the end of the month 4/2010 in Vietnam there are 42.981 HIV infected people with antiretroviral treatment. Among these patients, 25.310 people are receving support from PEPFAR.
