Vietnam: 5225 children living with HIV

There are 5225 children under the age of 16 living with HIV in Vietnam. This is the number of information during the ceremony was launched May Peak prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child in 2010.

Deputy Prime Minister Truong Vinh Trong, president of the National Committee on AIDS was launched May Peak prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child in the country in 2010.

Month peak 1-30/6 began the theme “HIV testing for her mother – healthy child” to encourage pregnant women to HIV testing service, access to HIV transmission prevention mother to child minimize the number of children infected with HIV from the mother.

At the launch ceremony, Mr Trinh Quan Huan – Deputy Minister of Health – said in 2009 the rate of HIV- infected pregnant women in the country is 0.25%, more provinces this ratio up to 1%. If not apply the preventions of HIV transmission from mother to child transmission of HIV, the rate of mother to child is 35%, while application of internention measures, the rate fell by onl 5%
